Reel Asian kicks off 2008 with a special advance screening of UP THE YANGTZE (沿江⽽上), a moving documentary about families being displaced by China's controversial Three Gorges Dam megaproject. Recently selected by the Toronto International Film Festival's "Top Ten of 2007", UP THE YANGTZE won the Best Canadian Documentary Award at the 2007 Vancouver International Film Festival and will help represent Canada at Robert Redford's prestigious Sundance Film Festival this month.
The film's Montréal-based filmmaker, Yung Chang (張僑勇), will be in attendance at this one-night-only special event and will take questions from the audience after the film. Reel Asian is especially proud to bring this special fundraising event to the many Asian Canadians living outside downtown Toronto who might not otherwise get the opportunity to see this important film.
